You’ve heard me talk about Geoachaching (http://www.geocaching.com/) as a great way to go hiking with a purpose and this works great for me. But once you work your local area and progress to the harder finds you don’t always have the time or energy to do it daily.
Living in a neighborhood boarding a park I have plenty of open space to get my walking in but let’s face it, walking laps gets plain old boreing after a while and it’s really hard to guage your distance, speed or if your stamina is really improving.
That’s where my latest little discovery comes into play, the Trimble All Sport program for your GPS enabled phone. In a nutshell it keeps track of your distance, pace and calories burned. It also plots out your course on Google maps and is downloadable via web to your desktop. You can even record laps and play them back to race against your self.
Of course I’m just going to use it for my little walks but built in settings include running, trail-running, biking and more.
You can see the full results of the above pictured walk at http://www.allsportgps.com/…splay.aspx as well as get more info on this program.
Prices vary slightly by carrier/phone. On Sprint with my BlackBerry Pearl I’m paying $5.99/mo.
